During the war, he worked as station manager at Bettisfield Airport and was in charge of maintaining domestic cargo and passenger and air transport in Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas. This made him exempt from active service. He worked for various other airlines as station manager, including Pennsylvania Airlines, Florida Airways, Peruvian Airlines and Capital Airlines. He also proudly held a private pilot’s license.
In 1948, they moved to Alexandria, Va., where Mrs. Wright had a variety of jobs (including a brief stint as a cardiogram technician at Alexandria Hospital). In 1950, she began work as a secretary to the Chief of Police at the Alexandria Police Department, where she stayed for 10 years.
