Both Ada and Inman spend the next three years going through all sorts of turmoil until Inman finally returns to Cold Mountain.
Kidman lights up the screen as the young woman waiting for her soldier to return and Law gives a star performance. But Zellweger steals the film. Her Ruby is a cross between Annie Oakley and Pippi Longstocking as she commands the scene with gusto.
