Players recount their
moment of victory

On the Monday afternoon following their historic win, the Rappahannock County High School varsity football team was rewarded with an “easy” day in the weight room.
The players were all in good spirits, laughing and joking, but they all got in their reps.
Winning football games takes a lot of hard work and they know they’ve still got a lot of tough games ahead. Still, it’s nice to win the first one. It takes a team effort to do so. No one play wins a game, but here are some of the highlights from the players in their own words:
“I think a lot of us felt a ton of pressure with this being our first varsity game,” said junior Corey Voorhies, whose block of Chincoteague’s extra point provided the winning margin.
“Me and my buddy Brian Adams were doubleteaming the lineman across from us and we blew him up. Brian took him all the way down, giving me the chance to get in and block it. I got both hands on it. I wasn’t going to let them get that extra point.”
