Black’s paintings vibrate with an energy and brilliance that is of gem-like intensity. The use of multiple layers of paint to create a “history” of paint, the variation in line and color all combine to create paintings that rivet the eye. They speak of a world intensely observed and felt.
The exhibit by Black and Nash needs to be seen because the paintings are beautiful in their evocations. And visitors to the gallery are the lucky ones who can revel in the wonderful moments that these two artists have wrested out of the medium of their second careers: paint.
