Sally Nash has been involved with dance almost her entire life, first as a dancer and later as a choreographer.
A longtime Sperryville resident, she founded in 1989 the Workspace for Choreographers, a retreat in the Blue Ridge where choreographers can go to experiment with new ideas in a no-pressure, supportive environment.
The Workspace takes up the entire bottom floor of Nash’s house, which she worked closely with an architect to create. It is in this airy space, amidst much glass, wood and light in a setting high on a hill, that Nash lives and paints when she is not running the Workspace. '
A contemplative and serene spirit is pervasive. The studio itself is in a huge room with a cathedral ceiling which also serves as Nash's living room and kitchen.
