After retirement in 1973, Lt. Col. Purdy was employed with Bechtel Corp. as a Transportation Officer on location in Fairbanks, Alaska on the transcontinental pipeline. He also worked for National Systems Management and VSE in Arlington, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Browning Purdy, and four daughters: Jewel DeVries of Elicott City, Md., Deirdre Lunn of Aiken, S.C., Dana Purdy of Alexandria, Va., and Laura Orlowski.
Additional survivors include seven grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 13 from 7-9 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. at Ft. Meyer Chapel with interment following in the Arlington National Cemetery.
