It was a record setting year lor the 30th running of the 10-K Podderstack race. Under an umbrella of blue skies, 32b runners, walkers, and baby carriage pushers set out from Flint Hill on Suturday morning on a healthy but trying road to Washington. Once across the finish line, the participants, ranging in age from 5 to 78-years-old. were greeted by a large group of supporters, photographers and vendors.
Records were definitely mude to be broken! Not only were there more entries this year but (aster times logged as well. This year there were* 350 entries with 328 starting the race. Not everyone finishes but quite an increase over the last two years. Lots of credit goes to Mike Shotton, who has generously donated his time to set up a website tor the race organizers and to keep it updated
A new record for the women was set by Julie Culley of Arlington of with a winning time of36:20 -only 4 seconds behind the first male finisher. The old record of 36:46 was held by Kim Belyea for many years. The Virginia Savings Bank of Front Royal donated $500 to be used to award the record setters. So Julie Culley is the big winner of the $500. Congratulations Julie.
The Eva Smith Memorial - given to the first Rappahannock male and female to finish the race - Alex Ramey - 42:11 and Ashley Matthews - 50:14
The Ike & Quito Parrish Family Memorial Award - This is the second year this award has been given - 2008 winner is the Mervyn Jeffries family from Bethesda, Md and Rappahannock County. Overall Female Winners
