In 1988, • remarkable hone named Von Caadek won the Gold Cop by 110 lengths — 25 seconds ahead of the rad of the field His rider, Patrick Wan-all, a 16yeerald high school sophomore at the time, became the youngest rider ever to win the race. Von Csadek ami Patrick returned to win in 1990.

The event received international recognition in 1993 when the British Jockey Chib determined that winners of the race would automatically qualify famed

as starters in the

Grand National at Aintree. an honor previously granted only to the winner of The Pardubice in Czechoslovakia and the Maryland Hunt Cup.
