Women and the Women’s Convention, an auxiliary of the National Baptist Convention. In 1909, Ms. Burroughs also founded the National Training School for Women and Girls in Washington, D.C., which is now' a National Historic Landmark.; Dorothy Carter Butler, Nan's mother, who is a lifelong Rappahannock resident, a teacher, volunteer, and the first African-American member of the county school board. Mrs. Butler was warmly acknowledged by all present for her contributions to our community.
