His announcement came after several inquiries by the News following up on information that Welch had been let go by the Inn from which there has been no official announcement.
O’Connell was not available for comment, as he is currently in Germany, but of previous employees who have left, O’Connell has said, “I don’t refer to former employees as leaving but rather going off to become ambassadors.”
Rachel Hayden, the Inn’s Marketing Director, did speak to the Rappahannock News, but said only of Welch’s departure that they “wish him well in his new endeavors.”
Despite the sudden resignation, the Inn already has a replacement.
He is Kaan Caglar who recently was the general manager at the Lodge at Sea Island in Georgia - a swank, “fullservice” private club and resort according to the concierge of the lodge the News spoke with. Caglar will begin his new job at the Inn on Monday, said Hayden.
Hayden spoke highly of Caglar’s background in the hotel industry. “He comes from a family that owns a hotel in Europe...he has this in his blood.”
Hayden also pointed out that Caglar is coming from Sea Island “which is a Five Star, Five Diamond resort.”
Welch would say only that he “is pursuing a new challenge in the hospitality arena.”
Asked about his departure form the Inn, Welch said only “I’d simply like to say that I will miss my many friends in Rappahannock County and I wish Patrick and his team at the Inn much continued success.”
