should all know about the simple 30-30 rule for lightning. Whether you are fishing on a lake, at a ball game, in a park or just enjoying the outdoors, approaching thunderstorms can and do produce lightning well ahead and also behind the thunderstorm.

Most lightning deaths occur before and after the main part of a thunderstorm. This is because people tend to move indoors, to safety, when the rain arrives. At that time, it could be too late.
