2007. Business and tourism representatives of that advisory board called together the county’s wineries, restaurants, distillery and farm representatives to discuss and implement creative ways to support local businesses and sustainable agriculture, including the five family owned, awardwinning wineries, the restaurants and the unique distillery. The group’s first event was Gourmet Rappahannock 2008, a wine and food tasting experience held at the historic Schoolhouse last June, which showcased Rappahannock wines, spirits, and restaurants.
Gourmet Rappahannock 2009 continues the mission of educating the public about the county’s agricultural products. The Summer Solstice Farm Dinner, to be held at Mount Vernon Farm which adjoins the Schoolhouse, will continue the tradition of supporting Rappahannock’s small rural community by promoting the key messages of sustainable agriculture, buy fresh buy local movement, farmland preservation, community building, and natural resource conservation.
