Addressing what he described as “the very exuberant class of 2009,” retiring Superintendent Dr. Robert Chappell expressed his pride in the graduates.
He also oversaw the conferring of degrees by RCHS Principal Adam Burket, as well as the awarding of the valedictory and salutatory medals and recognition of scholarship recipients.
Chappell recognized past RCHS graduates in the crowd, such as Rappahannock County Sheriff Connie Smith and a number of teachers.
“We have a number of people who aspired to do things and were sitting where you are sitting today. So we urge you to realize your dreams,” he said.
Chappell adso urged graduates to continue to learn, whether they are headed to college, the military, or the world of work.
“I continue to learn everyday of my life and I have to remind myself daily that the best way to learn is to listen,” Chappell said. “Five, 10, and 15 years from now we want to read about you and the things you’ve accomplished."
