James J. Kilpatrick of Woodville has been named “Virginian of the Year” by the Virginia Press Association (VPA). Kilpatrick will be honored during VPA’s meeting, July 13, at the Cavalier in Virginia Beach. He is the 17th Virginian to earn the VPA honor, which is given annually to a person who has achieved national prominence reflecting favorably on Virginia. Kilpatrick is a native of Oklahoma City but began his newspaper career at the Richmond News Leader. His syndicated column, “A Conservative View, “ was begun in Richmond in 1964.
