Hackley’s has meant “Rappahannock” for me. After a long commute there is something truly comforting about coming over that last little rise into Amissville and seeing that beautiful old store.
I remember my Dad used to say (some 35 years ago after his drive home from Alexandria) “When I pass Brother Hackley’s I know I’m home.” Truer words were never spoken. I will miss Hackley’s Store and those little six- ounce cokes.
And last and certainly the saddest was this paper’s ( May 28) story about the couple who won the Virginia lottery. I was disgusted th?"' the account of a horrific fatal accident that occurred almost eight years ago was the center of the article. I think all involved has suffered and continues to suffer. That can’t be something that just goes away. To include that was cheap and amateur journalism at its finest.
