Roger Flinchum opened a drawer from a desk in his classroom at Rappahannock County High School and pulled out a packet of letters in a plastic Ziploc bag.
“Every teacher has one of these.” he said in an interview as he began to thumb through postcards, emails and hand-written letters from former students thanking him for being their teacher
“This is the real pay we get," he said, “this is the real pay.”
Flinchum. 62, was taking a break from his College Prep class last week to reminisce about his 41 years as a teacher at Rappahannock County High School. He has taught there longer than anyone else. In fact, he’s taught more than a few former students who are nowteachers themselves at the school.
"My plan is to call it at the end of the year,” he said, but he would like to stay on in a more limited capaci
