The Panthers dropped their season opener, 27-7, to East Hardy (WV) on Sept. 4.
Friday night, they travel to West Virginia to face Montcalm, which won its season opener over Twin Valley.
Hancock took two first-half fumbles and mounted scoring drives for a 14-0 halftime lead.
But the Panthers made the game interesting in the second half. Freshman Jaquare Hill returned a- kickoff to the Hancock 30 to set up Rappahannock County’s first touchdown. Five plays later, Fitzmorris scored from three yards out to cut the deficit to 14-6.
Hill had a big night as the Rappahannock County kick returner, gamering more than 100 yards in just three plays.
After the Rappahannock defense stopped Hancock, the Panthers drove 50 yards for their second score, a five-yard run from Fitzmorris. They went for the two-point conversion. But the broken play resulted in Rappahannock being unable to convert, leaving Hancock to hold a 14-12 lead late in the game.
