Junk said he thought is was a great idea and that they can “serve their purpose.” Junk has been critical of the schools’ budget in the past, but when asked how he felt about it, Junk replied that he just wants to “make sure every dollar is spent wisely.” This might sometimes not involve lowering taxes. But, Junk points out, property assessments are going to be a lot lower next year. Junk said his primary concern with the schools’ budget is that the “money budgeted should be used for what it says it is for.” He’s against approving a budget and then moving money between categories. Junk points out that he supported the step raise for teachers - a step raise was not in this year’s budget - but he didn’t support the proposed performance contract. However, Junk did acknowledge that several teachers refused to sign his petition notwithstanding his support for the step raise. In addition to the Planning Commission and Concerned Taxpayers, Junk has also volunteered for a number of community organizations including the Rappahannock Animal Welfare League, and local business. associations. Junk and his wife, Danielle, have lived in the same house - right at the corner of Main Street and Route 522, the one with the famous maple tree in its glorious fall colors - in Rappahannock for 25 years.
