Among them is famed photographer Annie Liebovitz’s first edition, portrait book depicting her defining (197090) images of Americas pop culture icons; another first edition of “Beautiful Swimmers," Pulitzer-prize winning author William W. Warner’s tale of the fascinating life of the famed Atlantic blue crab and the skilled Chesapeake watermen who harvest them; and an intriguing 1914 “Book of W'onders,” which unveils how the Holland Tunnel to New York City was dug under the Hudson River. It also offers a mind boggling but fascinating assortment of information much, not accurate by today’s standards), ranging from why do we have fingernails, how rope and rubber is made, and why some things are transparent and others not.
Currently offered as collectible or special books are many of likely local interest. They include the impressive and informative, “How to ' arve Wood" by Richard Butz, who taught his craft in a longrunning PBS television series; ir "Noah’s Ark" featuring magnificently detailed, drawn and painted illustrations of hundreds of animals by famous Dutch artist and naturalist Rien Portvliet. Either of these two books, or possibly American Colonial: Puritan Simplicity to Georgian Grace" or another, offering instructions on needlecraft would inspire creative endeavor.
For children, parents might wish to buy famous luthor Shel Silverstein’s loveiv. funny book “The Runny Babbit," in brand new condition for $10; or consider “How to Behave So Your Dog Behaves” at $12 by award winning author, veterinarian, Sophia Yin.
