If only the Rappahannock County High School football team could take back three plays from Friday night’s game against Hancock, Md.
It probably would be 1-1 instead of 0-2.
“We played well enough to win. You eliminate three fumbles, and they score one touchdown,” Rappahannock County head coach Bob Czekaj said. “And we win.”
But all the Panthers can say is “If”
Hancock turned Rappahannock County’s mistakes into three scores and stopped the Panthers, 20-12, at Panther Stadium.
Two of the three fumbles came as we were driving to score,” Czekaj said. “When we fumbled, the defense let down a little, and because of the fumbles, we ended up giving up points. We’re minus five in turnovers in two games. That’s hard to win football games with that."
The miscues also overshadowed marvelous offensive performances from quarterback Justin Fitzmorris and running back Matt Fletcher. Each had more than 100 yards rushing. The Panthers had more than 250 yards on the ground.
