The Baby Bear is not a baby anymore.
As it approaches its 10th anniversary in the same Main Street, Sperryville home where it was born, Baby Bear Daycare and Preschool is. in fact, showing signs of rapid growth.
"Now that 1 have two assistants, we can also take up to 12 children at a time,” says owner Connie Reid, who has lived in Rappahannock for 23 years, most of them “right here in the village of Sperryville ”
She opened Baby Bear in her home in 2000; in 2006 the Reids built a 24-by-28 dedicated addition in the back, opening onto the deck and fenced backyard playground.
On a recent visit, the back room, with numerous play nooks, kid-sized tables and chairs and a pillow-covered sofa, was home to a handful of infants and toddlers and two school-age children, looked after by Reid and assistants Brittany Jenkins and Jessica Reid (no relation!.
