Plans annual visit

The School Board’s agenda Tuesday night was again primarily about budget issues, this time anticipating reduced sales tax revenue from the state in this year’s budget.
The good news is that enrollment is higher than predicted with 928 enrolled to date The unexpected mcrease was in the numler of those entering kindergarten - 60 were expected. 83 showed up
Clearly excited about the numbers. School Superintendent Dr Bob Chappell said. "We’re hoping to have a really outstanding year” despite the budget issues.
Chappell informed the board of Gov. Tim Kaine’s news release and subsequent memos indicating the schools will get less money in this year's budget than anticipated.
“It sounds like sales tax money will decrease in the current budget." said Chappell although he could as yet give no specifics. On top of that, said Chappell, there are indications that once expected stimulus money will be impacted too.
Last year, according to Chappell, the state backed out of $80,000 in revenue and this year looks to be the same.
“We made cuts where we could, we tightened our belts, but we did not reduce staff,” said Chappell.
