Jennings anmutea me a item pi ed robbery, Thursday morning, at Charlotte Court House. According to Carter, who had a description of the color of the car only, he followed the man into a service station on Route 26. He called for the Negro to halt as he headed for a small building across the road from the station. .Jennings tried to pull his gun, but it hung in his shirt. By that time. Carter had him covered. Carter said-that he radioed the license number of the car to head quarters when he started the chase just in case any thing happened to him. Cashier's Account Cashier Sam D. Eggleston gave 1 this account of the attempted robbery. "We had iust closed the bank when a tall Negro buzzed the door to get in. We were expect ing another Negro man on some business, so we opened the door and let this man in. "When I saw he was a stranger. I told him the bank was closed but he said he wanted to have a conference' with me. He didn't look just right and I thought he looked as though he had been drinking so I asked him to leave. "After he left, one of the other cashiers said he remembered the man coming in to change a dollar bill about 1:45 and then hanging around the bank for a few min utes. Since the whole thing looked suspicious, we called for Clifton Jones, the town noliceman.
