Thru life I’ve hoarded treasures up Like some old misers store up gold ; I filled my mind with memories To cheer my heart when I grew old. I stored them in a place apart Deep in the chambers of my heart. The scene of roses on the breeze, Sheep and lambs on a grassy hill, Sun and shadows upon a road, The turning wheel of an old mill. A winding road that curves and dips, The boyhood joys of camping trips. A pretty child with lovely hair Swinging her dollie by the arm, A laughing boy without a care Who played upon a near by farm. Each scene a treasure stored in me Recalling days that used to be. Within my mind I piled up joy By hoarding there these odds and ends; And now of them at times I write In simple verse for old time friends. In my old age I live again Scenes stored up in memory lane. These treasures hoarded up like gold Warm up my heart when 1 am old. L. D. Whitaker
