Beginning the day’s program will he the staging of a mammoth parade covering some 30 blocks. Thirty-one bands and musical organizations from Virginia, Maryland, and West Virginia have been invited to participate. Following the parade, the musical organizations will compete for cups to be awarded by Bing Crosby.
Raymond R. G.est, State Senator from this district, and a close personal friend of Crosby’s, is serving as general chairman of the Bing Crosby Day set-up.
The premiere of Mr. Crosby’s latest picture, “Riding High,” will be staged at the Park Theatre in Front Royal at 8:30 on the night of April 1, and tickets are being allocated to the highest bidders, all contributions to go to the fund of the Warren County-Front Royal Recreation Association.
It has been announced that the bids for the tickets do not necessarily have !to be those of $50, $75 or $100, but that bids have been coming in in the range from $2 to $100, with most of the bids being in the lower bracket. All bids must be in the hands of the Ticket Committee, Box 1041 Front Royal, not later than midnight, March 20, and those whose bids ade too low will have their money refunded immediately.
The theatre seats 993, with 94 of the seats being reserved for colored patrons, and their bidding is entirely separate from the bidding of the seats for the white patrons. Checks or money orders must accompany the bids.
Crosby has offered to appear in person at all of the scheduled events and everyone is looking forward to seeing him, at one of thr> nlaces, at least.
Invitations to be in attendance in Front Royal on Bing Crosby Day have gone to Vice President Barkley; to United States Senators Harry F. Byrd and A. Willis Robertson; Congressman Burr P. Harrison, and to the Governors of Virginia, West Virginia. Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Tennessee.
Governor John S. Battle, with Mrs. Battle, and Governor Okey Patteson of West Virginia, with Mrs. Patteson and their two daughters have made known their intentions of being present.
