Termite Exterminators
Many Virginia home owners each year are victimized by socalled “termite exterminators,’’ warns John Amos, insect and disease specialist at V.P.I.
Amos says it is customary for most termite operators to give a five-year contract. The legitimate operator is one who is able to give a bank reference, has been doing business in the same area, usually for several years, and who has a reputation of living up to his contracts. He has a permanent business address and telephone listing, and does not solicit business from house to house.
The V.P.I. specialist says that the Virginia State Pest Control Operators Association, an organization formed to promote a high standard of service, has gone on record as opposing the unethical practices, and is co-operating in keeping the inefficient operators out of business.
The association members ask home owners to notify them when work is not satisfactorily done, either by members or non-members. A list of the membership has been sent to county and city health departments and Extension Service workers. Henry M. Glasgow, Salem, is association president.
Amos also announces that another Pest Control Operators Shoit Course will be held at VPI this year, probably during the fall. It is held at the request of the association in co-operation with the U. S. Public Health Service and the Fish and Wildlife Service.
