March 31 Marks Final
For Corn Price Support
Farmers desiring to secure* price support on their 1949 corn have until March 31 to make application, according to H. S. Barksdale, chairman, Rappahannock PMA County Committee. In order to be eligible for support on corn, the producer must indicate his desire by signing a purchase agreement or apply for loan by the closing date.
Support price is $1.57 per bushel for corn grading U.S. No. 3 or better. This corn must be shelled and delivered upon instructions given by the county committee. It fs expected that corn in Rappahannock will be delivered soon after the first of May.
So far this year only three farmers have signed purchase agreements as compared with six farmers last year. Farmers desiring further information should contact the county PMA office before the deadline, March 31.
Prof. Winfrey Appointed
High School Principal
Professor H. B. Winfrey was appointed last Wednesday night by the school board to be principal of Rappahannock County High SchooJ for .the. coming_session, 1950-51. Mr. Winfrey will be in Front Royal tomorrow to confer with Supt. Q. D. Casque in a discussion of plans for the organization of the school’s session for next year.
Mr. Winfrey has been with the Rappahannock school system for 28 years and is now principal of Sperryville High School.
Schwartz Auction
An auction of farm machinery and several ricks of hay was held at the E. M. Schwartz farm, known as “Rosewood,” on Saturday, March 18. The sale was managed by Charles H. Estes to whom the property was recently sold, and J. B. Johnson was auctioneer. All of the farm machinery and hay was sold at a fairly good, price. The weather was very favorable and the sale was attended by a large crowd.
