The complimentary party given by friends of Miss Mary Elizabeth Hite (“Miss Dolly”), Rappahannock’s new authoress of “My Rappahannock Story Book”, was held Friday afternoon at “Thornton Hill,” home 6f Mrs, William Meade Fletcher. Over 150 friends from Rappahannock and adjacent counties were present.
Guests were received on the lawn by Cathy and Bucky Fletcher, small daughters of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Fletcher, and Miss Betty Snead and Miss Marjorie Dodson, all dressed ih colonial costumes.
One of the outstanding features of the party was the singing of familiar songs by a trio composed of Mrs. E. S. Wagner, Miss Jo Ellen Worth and L. J. Turner. They sang “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny,” “My Old Kentucky Home,” and a parody, the words by Mrs. J. Frank Jones, honoring Miss Dolly Hite.
