85th Birthday W. E. Compton, known in Washington » Willie," marked his 86th "birthday anniversary Friday, January 12, at home with his sister, Miss Margaret Compton.
Mr. Compton was born in Washington and attended school at the "Rabbit Gum.” He left his native town at the age of 18 and worked ***the pHntiftg trade until his t*-' tirement in 1930. At that time he returned to Washington and served the town as Mayor for 18 years. It was during his term as mayor that the town water system was installed for Washington.
Mr. Compton wears proudly his 60-year printer’s button, and he is a daily visitor at the News office where he is welcomed by the printers who enjoy seeing one who "speaks the language” of a print shop.
FIREMAN’S BANQUET
