It is recognized that peach plantings in the furture, as in the past, will consist largely of Rlberta with smaller proportions of Golden Jubilee, Halehaven, Shipper’s Late Red and J. H. Hale. It is hoped, however, that some of the newer varieties listed here will replace some of the acreage given to the older varieties mentioned above. These varieties are listed in order „of ripening as followers:

Erly-Red-Fre is a white fleshed peach ripening nearly six weeks before Elberta. It is attractive but the flesh is inclined to be soft, and it has been a semi-cling at Blacksburg. It has good flavor, and should be of interest primarily for local market and home use though some growers have shipped it successfully.

Early East is a yellow fleshed ■ peach ripening a day or two after Erly-Red-Fre. It was developed in New Jersey where it is said to be a-freestone. At Blacksburg it is a semi-cling. The fruit sizes up well, is attractively colored and has medium firm flesh. The quality is good for an early peach.

Jterseyland is another yellow flesned peach from New Jersey. It is a near freestone ripening four weeks before Elberta or about four days before Golden Jubilee. The fruit is highly colored and attractive. It sizes up well. The flesh is firmer than Golden Jubilee and has good flavor. ^Redhaven

is a yellow fleshed peach developed by the Michigan Agricultural Experiment Station. Ripening about four days before Golden Jubilee, it is one of the most attractive peaches and sizes up well if heavily thinned. It is one of the heaviest producers of buds, however, and often over ibesrs. The flesh is Arm, has fine flavor and is nearly freestone. Redhaven should- ship reasonably well apd offers real promise for the coolor sections of Virginia.
