What’a A Gano Party?

So you don't know what, a Gano Party is?

Well, it seems about ten years ago when Gano apples were practically worthless (and in.a certain sense they still are) , Charlie Estes and his wife, Dot, of Sperryville got to discussing their crop of Canos. Charlie was in favor of forgetting them, but not Dot . . . she felt the apples should some-, how. do somebody some good. Finally Charlie agreed to let Dot^ have the apples if she would do the pickin'.

Dot, as all of the many people who know her realize, is a hustler. Tact is, people sometime argue in a friendly manner just which is the hustlinest—the Mr. or Mrs.

Anyway, Dot rushed in. She picked 90 barrels of Ganos and got herself that much-longed-for fur coat out of the Gano prop. The second year, big-hearted Dot decided to use her profits for a party. Result: a soup dinner was served to 50 guests..

Each succeeding year Dot has regularly held her Gano party. - Its size, frills, etc., are determined by the profits she can make off the year's crop. Truly this is a good example of how some Rappa. bannock folks can take something unwanted and with a little think* irig, sweat, and ingenuity, turn it into something of worth and pleasure.

Dot, hats off to you again!
