-By W. H. ' In July 1936 the Rappahannock Co-operative Fruit Growers Incorporated, with 14 charter members, meant the beginning of cooperative apple grading, packing, storing and marketing. This' organisation was set np in Sperryville. In September the following year the unit was in operation. * Shortly thereafter there became a need for using sound, mature apples which could not meet domestic grades. This prompted the management and growers to take steps to market these apples in a by-product form . . . The Blue Ridge Fruit Growers Inc., also at Sperryville, is the result, and produce some of the finest apple juice put on the market anywhere.
L. J. Kilby advised the group in processing methods and the first Skylin* Drive brand of apple juice went on the market in 1939 and was readily received-in nearby areas. ■.« On July 17, 1941 the eoOpera, tive was officially set up under a , charter with Bob Craves as president, R.
