•pray instead of tha dormant application. For this spray ate a 3 per cant superior oil. This spray wil give better control of European red mite than the dormant spray and at the same time will kill aphids that have hatched and destroy aphid eggs that are in the cracked egg stage. This spray should be completed by the time that the first leaves are 1-4 inch long. This spray will also help in the control of leaf roller. It is important to reduce costs whereever possible without the grower taking too many chances; so in orchards where scale insects are not a serious problem, the grower may consider omitting the dormant’or delayed dormant sprays, since it is now possible with the present organic insecticides to (control aphids in - the pre-blossom sparys. Apple scab is one of the most serious of all apple diseases. It is responsible for a large quantity of low-grade fruit each year. A serious scab infection of the leaves reduces fruit bod forma* tion for future crops. It is, therefore, most important to prevent and control scab infection. The purpose of the pre-pink spray is to give protection against primary scab infection, and especially is it necessary where weather conditions afe favorable for |scab development and on such scab susceptible varieties as Red Delicious. It is well to start this spray when the pink first begins to show in the center bud of the flower cluster. It should be finished by the time the flowers begin to separate in the duster. If the weather is rainy, start a little earlier. Get die spray on ahead of the rain if at all possible.

Liquid lime sulphur is one of the most effective fungicides for the control of scab. A protective cover of liquid lime sulphur on the -leaves prevents the scab spores from germinating, but liquid lime sulphur has the ability to scab after infection has taken place. Where the weather- is favorable for scab and where scab has been bad in previous years, it would be well to use liquid lime sulphur at the rate of six quarts for each hundred gallons. Mjany growers are getting away from the use of liquid lime sulphur and are using paste sulphurs instead with good results. There is less danger of inji<ry from paste sulpHurs. If paste sulphurs are used, it will require from twelve to fifteen pounds of flotation or from eight to ten pounds so other good paste sulphur in each one 'hundred, gallons. v 'Pink Spray, \
