Thirteen Culpeper county farmers and six farmers in Rappahannock county have received assistance from the Culpeper Soil Conservation District in establishing their crop • rotatioA in contour strips on sloping croplands during the past month. Many prominent farmers in the district have found that rotations in contour strips conserve priceless topsoil and valuable rainfall. “Storing large quantities of rainfall in the soil is of much importance in growing a hundred bushel corn crop,” says Bill Rodman, manager of Brandy Rock Farm near Brandy. Contour strips is one of the ways of slowing down the rate at which the rainfall runs off the field, thus allowing more of it to soak into the ground to be used by the plants.
The following Rappahannock " ‘county ..farmer* received assistance: J. S. Davis,, Hawlin; Cary G. Thornhill, Slate Mills; Clifford Dennis, Scrabble; A. C. Hensley, Castleton; J. S. Dodson, Castleton; J. S. Dodson, Castleton; and J. Hill O’Bannon, Woodville.
Numerous other farmers in both counties have requested assistance in establishing contour lines. Soil conservation technicians “working in cooperation with the Culpeper soil conservation district are concentrating on this phasi of the conservation program during the months of January and Fd>ruary.
ENTERTAIN AT BRIDGE
Mr. and Mrs. Brue Wood entertained a few of their friends at bridge Saturday evening, having as their guests Miss Nancy Moore, Lide Dearing, Miss Minnie Williams, Mrs. John S> Browning, and Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Smith, Jr. Mrs. Browning won first prise, Mrs. Smith second prise and Miss Minnie Williams traveling prise.
