Mr. and Mis. Leon T. Greenaway proved to be tops Saturday at Rappahannock Hunt’s Point-toPoint races, taking the lead in three of the races.
The Fanners’ Race, opening the afternoon, saw Wade H. Massie HI winner, riding an entry of W. G. Eaatham. Tommy Eastham drew second spot, with Frank Dodson’s horse third, ridden hy Mitchell Dodson.
Leon T. Greenaway on “Gold Barron” and John R. DeBergh on “Red Bug” fought it out for the second race, The Battle Run. First one and then the other took the lead during the race. They closed ’at the last jump, taking it simultaneously, and Greenaway pulled out on the stretch to win by half a length. P. M. Lewis on “Wings” was third.
This close and exciting hit of close racing was typical of the afternoon, when keen competition gave the crowd intense interest.
Mrs. John R. DeBergh, on “Tech”, took the .lead in the third race, The Mount Salem, for ladies, and held it to the last jump. At the stretch, Mrs. Greenaway, on “Run Bob”, owned by Manly J. Bruce, broke into the lead and was given a dose finish by Miss Hitchcock of Middleburg, riding Sydney Culver's “Jack Rabbit." Miss Hitchcock did not make her bid until after the final jump, and she was closing Mrs. Greenaway's lead so fast that the crowd held its breath.
