Dear Editor.
I was amazed at some of the reasons of tho “cons” concerning* the building of a new school. For those who mentioned the dwindling population, I don’t see what else they could expect when Rappahannock has an inadequate school building . with buses that break down frequently. We don't have a community center of any kind, and it seems that Rappahannock offers very little to encourage the younger generation to stay here.
As to the lack of the present quality of instruction, I wonder if these people really think that they are better 'educated thanthe students of today, or if they are merely trying to think of reasons, besides the increase in taxes, for not building the school. 1 am a recent graduate of Sperryville High School, and I have found in competing with many out-of-state students at the College of William and Mary that the quality of instruction I received in high school has not bean a handicap. Instead, I have found my disadvantages in having to spend time taking such courses as typing, which should have been offered in the *»ig*« schools here many .years ago.
It seems to me that the people of Rappalymnock should have enough pride to want to see a good school, even if it did mean an increase in taxes.
