Red Cross Drive Extendi

The Red Cross has extended its drive to April 9, states the chairman of the fund drive, Allen D. Johnson, because all districts have not reported on their part in the drive.

The chairman has sent out a request that all contributions be turned in immediately, or before Monday, April 9.

(Miss Carroll Williams, chairman for the colored people, reports a sum of $38, which is included in Hampton district.)

States Mr. Johnson, “I would like to see all the districts reach their goals. Anyone, who would like to help their American Red Cross and has not as yet done so, please send \t to the chairman of your district: Hampton, Mrs. D. D. Miller; Piedmont, Mrs. Betty Weaver; Wakefield, Rev. Norman Flythe; Jackson, Mrs. Sarah Y. Jenkins; Stonewall, Mrs. C. B. Johnson; Hawthorne, Miss Lixxie Miller.” __

The following telegram was received last week by the chairman of Rappahannock Red Cross fund drive from Governor Battle:

“The state of Virginia has always responded to the demands made upon it during great national emergencies. Ever-increasing numbers of our young men and women are now entering the nation’s armed forces and Virginia is well represented on the battlefields of Korea. We on the home front cannot let them down. Through our support of the American Red Cross we shall assure the funds necessary to carry on the many Red Cross services that are so essential to them and their families. The 1951 Red Cross campaign workers in your chapter are carrying out a patriotic service of vital importance to the citizens of this state. I urge you to exert every effort to assure a successful campaign in your community.”
