Last week, an effort was made to deal with the cost of construction of the proposed Rappahannock County High School, the past and present indebtedness of the county due to school building construction, the county and school census, and the enrollment in the white schools in the county since 1940-41. This week, additional questions concerning construction will be discussed in connection with the purpose of and the need for, a new county high school. When the consolidation program for the two high schools was put into effect, it was necessary to transport the pupils regularly enrolled in the fifth, sixth, and seventh grades at Washington to the Sperryville Elementary School center. This required additional transportation expense and also a longer bus route for many pupils. The same situation obtained for those high school pupils who formerly attended the Sperryville High School, but the transportation of high school pupils for longer distances is not as undesirable as adding to the distances elementary pupils are to be transported. This is especially true of the primary grades. For this reason, the primary department consisting of grades one to four, inclusive, was left at the Washington center.
