Washington Clean-Up
Day Proves Successful
Mr. sad Mrs. Wade H. Massie, Jr., copped the first prise in Washington’s clean-up day.* They were winners by more than a length in the campaign of cleanup and general improvement in the appearance of their property between Gay and Main streets.
H. C. Geest took the second prise for the improvement in the appearance of his lot on Main street, and third prise went to Mia. J. M. Lttlard on Use Ridge avenue.
At 12 o’clock Miss Toni Taylor of “Womans Home Companion,’’ who was here with George Heyer, photographer, to .write a story on the town and Mr. Heyer to take pictures invited the FFA boys to lunch to eat all they could hold. They did. <
Wade H. Massie, Jr., was very busy planting grass seed on the lawn at the Courthouse.
W. H. Massie, Jr., and F. ClySe Baggarly gave cash donations towards improving the Courthouse.
The American Legioh did planting around the town markers at each entrance to town.
The trees were set back around the town markers at each entrance of town.
The trees were set back a short distance from the fire house steps, which is a great improvement, and the wire fence between the Rappahannock National Bank and/ the fire house was taken down. Mrs. W. C. Campbell and Charles Reid were busy setting out flowers around the fire house.
Lunch was served by the county home, demonstration club.
