It’s high time these lazy birds (and I mean the feathered ones) began to scout for their own food. I enjoyed feeding them all winter. There was a feeding station outside the dining room window. Redbirds, downy woodpeckers, chicka-dees, a titmouse and another titmouse, (I don’t know whether to say tit-mice or tit-mouaes) joined us for meals. Mr. Downy Woodpecker, also called treecreeper and sap-sucker, feasted on suet. Mr. Redbird preferred the' grain. The chickadees ate both, and so did Mr. and Mrs. Titmouse and the white-throated sparrow.
But it is noiw time for them to begin .to find their own food.
The other day we had let the feeder dwindle in supplies., and what did the spoiled birds do but ait outside the window and cuss us out.! They let us know—in a language we did not comprehend but in tones unmistakable—that we were so-and-so’s from way back and had been for several generations!
I did not appreciate their impertinence, and I surely condemnthem for their lack of appreciation. Think of the expense, time, and trouble wasted upon them all winter.
