Mrs. Kistner Lectures
On Flower Arrangement
The Rappahannock Garden Club was most fortunate in procuring the services of Mrs. Ruth Kistner, of New York, to give two lectures on flower arrangement, at the Sperryville school auditorium on Monday, May 14. These lectures were open to the public and those who attended feel that those not attending missed a wonderful opportunity of seeing an artist at work with flowers. Mrs. Kistner handled flowers just like an artist handles his brush and paints. Each bunch of flowers that she touched, with Very little effort, turned into an artistic creation. One of the most interesting things that she taught was how to condition flowers so that they stay fresh for weeks at a time.
The morning session was taken up with designs of arrangements. To demonstrate these she made arraigjgefrients to show the different basic designs used in flower arranging. She brought out that each arrangement must have three dimensions — height, width and depth. The three mechanics of flower arranging are pin holder, linen thread and sharp scissors.
At noon the ladies of the Sper-v ryville Methodist church served a delicious luncheon at the Lee Highway hotel.
