Grape Spray Advised
For Disease Control
It‘s time to spray grapes for disease control.
J. M, Amos, associate plant pathologist at V.P.I., says spray to control anthracnose, bitter rot, black rot, and mildew should be applied when the second or third leaf shows. '
ordeaux mixture is the suggested control material, although fermate is gradually coming into widespread use. For three gallons' of spray use 1 tolVi ounces of fermate, or a bordeaux mixture made of 4 ounces of powdered bluestone and 5 ounces of hydrated lime. One ounce of soybean flour or V4 pint of skim milk may be added to bordeaux to increase the spreading and sticking qualities of the spray.
Another spray for disease and insect control should be applied just before the grape blossoms open. For this spray use either of the suggested materials and add 1 Vi ounces of DDT wettable powder or 2 ounces of lead arsenate for leafbopper and rose chafer control.
