There is no roster or record of the number of Presbyterians in the Town or vicinity when the building was constructed. It is known, however, that within the past forty or fifty years the membership was depleted to a very few. It is within the recollection of the present generation, that while there was no regular minister, the Reverend Robert S. Bell and the Reverend William Jacob Warden for many years contributed their'services as ministers without remuneration other than the satisfaction these Godly men enjoyed in the service of their God.
The Presbytery of Potomac being of the opinion there was no opportunity to revive or reestablish a membership within the Town by reason of three other churches, and of the further, opinion that through the sale of the property the payment could be used in building a church where there was prospect for success, directed Charles W. Warden, T. E. BartenstSm and Alfred Thomson, Trustees, petition the Circuit Court of Rappahannock County for leave to sell the said property and to execute proper deed therefor. *
The Court having granted the petition of the Trustees for the sale of the property and F. C. Baggarly, the purchaser, having agreed to the consideration as authorized by the Presbytery of Potomac and as approved by the Court, deed was executed on the 15th day of February, 1939.
