William Franklin Rankin is in Rappahannock County jail charged with larceny after attempting to steal a 1960 Ford owned by Tom Lee of Washington, Va.
The 18-year-old colored boy wa*w*een by William Lee in bis brotner’s car. When Lee tried to stop the boy, he attempted to get away in the auto.
Rankin was questioned by Trooper W. A. Buntin and admitted he had escaped from Roxboro prison camp in North Carolina, stole a car there* and went to Richmond, where he abandoned the vehicle. He hitched a ride to Washington, Va., on an apple truck where he was apprehended.
