The work done in the church

by the laity is yi invaluable importance. Individual members are blessed by a sense of accomplishment and the use of talents. Also, the church is blessed as a result of getting the. job done. In the Protestant church the layman has always played a vital role. More and more the Roman Church is recognizing the importance of her members leading in the work of the local church. Although a comparatively new thought in the Roman Catholic Church, it is to be discussed and possible changes made in the office of the laity during the fall conference to be held in St. Peter’s in Vatican City.

The Pastor or minister, though leader of the local chtfrch, is helpless without the help, cooperation, and above all the constant prayers of his people. I personally believe that church people are unfair to invite a man to lead their <Jwrch and fail to support him with faithful attendance, harmonious cooperation, and unceasing prayers.

The following is entitled, “My Favorite Prayer”, by the Honorable Robert S. Kerr, U.S. Senator from Oklahoma.

Our Father this is a prayer for my Pastor. Let me be a pillar of strength to help hold him up and not a thorn in his flesh to skp his strength, nor a burden on his back to pull him down.

Let me support him without striving to posses him.

Let me lift his hands without placing shackles around themT*

Let me give him help that he may devote more time in working for the salvation of others and less time n nnnnnnnnnnnny and less time in gratifying my vanity.

Let me work for him as the pastor of all the members and not compel him to spend precious time in bragging on me.

Let me be unselfish in what I do for him and not selfish in demanding that be do more for me.

Let me strive to serve him and the church much and be happy as he serves me less and the church and others more.

Amen.
