17-Yr. Rainfall Data

Seventeen years of rainfall data collected by Miss Ruby Jenkins at Washington, Va., for the Weather Bureau shows:

Heaviest rainfall since 1944 was in 1959 when we had 42.75 inches;

Lightest was in 1953 when the total precipitation was but 30.29 inches. Heaviest rainfall in any month since ’44 was in May of 1960 which totaled 8.9 inches or 23% of the year’s total.

The driest month was December of 1955 when there was but 0.11 inches.

Average annual rainfall has been 36.14 inches. Total through October of this year has been 31.94 inches.

Wettest’month, August with 4.49 inch average; the driest, January 1.999 inches.
