The Eighth Annual Virgin!* Hereford Association’s AllPolled Calf show and sale held Monday, December S at Orange was held under ideal weather conditions with a buying crowd present Forty-two lots of high quality Polled Hereford calves grossed 916,020 to average a strong $881—one of the top averaging calf sales in the East this year.
The pre-sale show, judged by Mack Patton, manager of Crail Farm, Hendersonville, N. C., was hotly contested. The Judge selected JCL Domestic Misch. 2 by BPF-Pawnee Perf 4, consigned by James C. Linthicum, Dayton, Maryland. *as the Champion Bull. This outstanding senior calf was purchased by Dr. W. H. Nicholson of Elkton, for $900. The Reserve Champion Bull. HAB Domestic Misch. 21 by WSF Adv. Misch. 1, consigned by James C. Linthicum, Dayton, Md., and H. A. Bartholomew, Washington, D. C., was purchased by Oak Grove Farm, Barboursville, for $500. Second top selling bull was RH Perfect Mixer 5, an 'outstanding senior calf by GB ' Beau Mixer 55. Rock Hill Farm of Blackstone was the breeder of this growthy, breedy-headed calf and he was purchased for $590 by Dr. Jere Lowe, Cookeville, Tenn.
