This ration you'll note is a bit shy in dry matter and TDN a bit over in digestible protein. Were Mr. Miller to feed but 2 lbs. of No. 2 corn the ration would be adequate.

Yes, what we have to feed and how much we feed is of considerable economic importance. A ration, it must be remembered, is but a guide. In finality whether it does the job it is supposed to do depends on other management factors.
Regarding management, George Litton, head of VPI’s Animal Husbandry Department says: “Take the man out and all you have left is agement . . . any body can grow old.”
The man doing the job must hold feed waste to a minimum, he must control internal and external parasites, etc., etc.
However, the value the forage testing laboratory can be to the livestock feeder I hope to have made clear. I do hope that some day its testing capacity will be increased 100 fold, or better, for 1500 samples isn’t very many when we stop to think of all the silage and hay made by different farmers under different conditions, etc.
