Annual Baptist Conference Of Writers and Editors
Green Lake, Wisconsin— The Sixteenth Annual Christian Writers and Editors Conference is under way this week at the American Baptist Assembly grounds. Sponsored jointly by the American Baptist Convention’s Board of Education and Publication and the National Council of Churches, the conference is open to writers of all faiths. The purpose of this conference, which is under the direction of Dr. Glenn H. Asquith, Executive Director of Division of Christian Publications, American Baptist Convention, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, is to train writers for Christian periodicals and to provide a training ground for new editors of related relgious publications.
Among the 150 people gathered are Josephine and Anna May Stambaugh. Plans for the conference include a concentrated program of workshops dealing with varying phases of literary forms such as verse, short stories, devotional and dramatic writing. In addition a series of addresses will be delivered by outstanding Christian writers and editors. On hand during the week will be Ruth McKay, columnist with the Chicago Tribune for 21 years; Father John L. Reedy, editor and publisher of Ave Maria, National Catholic weekly; Elizabeth Yates, award winning novelist; Ralph Seager, New York poet, and many others. An Extension School of Christian Journalism will be held for those interested from July 6 through 13. This is the Twentieth Anniversary of Christian conferences at the Green Lake site.
