The President also noted that “. . . early examination will NOT mean early induction. There will be no change in the present practice of calling older registrants for actual induction into the Armed Forces before younger ones are called.” At the present time, men are being reached for induction between 21 1/2 and 22 years of age, as a national average. In Virginia the average of involuntary induction is the same. The first group from Rappahannock will go on July 6th.

The Post Office Department’s ZIP Code will observe its first birthday Wednesdaynot to the dirge of Chopin’s I uneral March, as some Cassandras predicted, but to the strains of a lively Anniversary Waltz. In its first year of operation, Postmaster General John A. ['ronouski reported Sunday, 89.6 per cent of some 48,000 large volume mailers surveyed by the Department have agreed to participate in the program. This is a significant figure, the Postmaster General pointed out, inasmuch as business generates 75 per cent of all first class mail.
